Tommy NelsonDaniel - Things to Come (Part 2) by Tommy Nelson

"…The great God has made known to the king what will take place in the future; so the dream is true and its interpretations is trustworthy." Daniel 2:24

Have you ever found yourself wanting God to operate according to your own terms? Maybe a job promotion you wanted did not come your way and you got angry with Him. Or perhaps a relationship did not work out and you blamed Him. Rather than “Your will be done”, maybe your prayer at times has been “Your will be done…as long as I get what I want!”

So often we come to God with our own agenda rather than submitting ourselves to His. As a result we miss out on the wonder of trusting Him and the beauty of seeing Him in our lives.

The nation of Israel had an agenda. They longed for the coming of their promised Messiah, but on their own terms. They wanted salvation from the Gentile oppression they had been living under for centuries. They expected the Messiah to destroy the Gentile nations establish His kingdom on earth and sit victoriously on the throne. Instead He offered salvation to the Gentiles, He spoke of an eternal Heavenly kingdom to come, and He hung humbly on the cross.

Christ came on the terms of His Father, not on theirs. He was “despised and forsaken of men” (Isaiah 53:3), and hung on a cross to die. As a result the New Covenant promised to Israel was taken away, and for 2000 years the nation has been trampled under foot while the church has been experiencing the blessings of God that were once uniquely Jewish. However a day is coming when Christ will return, establish His kingdom of both Jew and Gentile, and rule in full glory over the nation of Israel.
